ElectraWoman-DynaGirl_1976TitleCardLegendary Digital Media has teamed up with Sid & Marty Krofft and Fullscreen to reboot the 1976 Saturday morning superhero series Electra Woman & Dyna Girl.

YouTube video bloggers Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart have been cast as the heroines. Helbig will star as Electra Woman and Hart will star as Dyna Girl, two superheroes who move from Akron, Ohio, to Los Angeles in the hopes of making it big in the crime-fighting world. Deidre Hall and Judy Strangis were the original crime-fighting duo.

Between the two YouTube personalities, they have a following of more than ten million followers, but the two are not known to mainstream audiences as of yet.

The show has been in pre-production in Vancouver for the past two weeks, and only this past weekend were Helbig and Hart allowed to reveal their involvement in the project. Shooting has begun, and will last for another two weeks. Music video director Chris Marrs Piliero will direct the series.

The reboot will be executive produced by the Kroffts. Fullscreen will debut and distribute the series in the United States and Legendary Television Distribution will oversee global distribution.

The original series lasted 16 episodes and was part of the Krofft Supershow as part of a collection of short-length programming. Taking its cues from the 1966 Batman, the show had a similar style and tongue-in-cheek humor. Gadgets included the ElectraCar, ElectraComs, and the ElectraBase. Perhaps not coincidentally, Judy Strangis’ brother Sam, a producer on EW&DG, was also on the crew of Batman. Deidre Hall would go on to portray Dr. Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives.

In 2001, the WB made an attempt at a reboot starring Markie Post, but it never made it to air. The concept was radically different, presenting Electra Woman as a bitter alcoholic whose husband had run off with Dyna Girl.

“Legendary is no stranger to the world of superheroes and we’re excited that Sid & Marty Krofft’s Electra Woman and Dyna Girl will mark the first female crime-fighting duo for our brand,” said Legendary Digital Media Senior VP Development and Production Greg Siegel. “Partnering with Fullscreen to deliver top quality digital content for our global fan base is an exciting next step for our growing digital division. I look forward to seeing how Grace and Hannah bring these caped crusaders back to life.”

This version of Electra Woman and Dyna Girl will be executive produced by the Kroffts. Fullscreen will debut and distribute the series in the United States and Legendary Television Distribution will oversee global distribution.
