Josh Brolin Joins the Other Marvel Universe as Cable

Josh Brolin is moving from one Marvel movie universe to the other, joining Deadpool 2 as Cable. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the deal involves four films.

Brolin, who plays villain Thanos in the Marvel Studios series of films, was a surprise contender for the role. Short list included Michael Shannon and David Harbour, with other names bandied about including Ron Perlman and Stephen Lang, who made it known he was interested not long after rumors started spreading that the character would be in the film. (Lang even allowed for the possibility that his involvement in the Avatar franchise would prevent him from playing Cable.)

Brolin joins Zazie Beetz, who was recently added to the cast as the superpowered mercenary Domino. He will soon be seen again as Thanos in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War from Marvel/Disney.

Deadpool 2 is set to begin production in June, shooting in Vancouver under the direction of David Leitch.
