Dwayne Johnson Teases No More: Black Adam
Variety is reporting that Dwayne Johnson will play Black Adam in New Line Cinema’s Shazam! According to their sources, Darren Lemke (Turbo, Jack the Giant Slayer) will write, with Hiram Garcia (Hercules) producing.
Johnson himself finally confirmed the news after months of teasing his involvement in a DC Comics movie. Speculation has been fierce as to whether or not the Captain Marvel movie would land in one of the many dates recently announced by Warner Brothers. New Line Cinema, the company that shepherded the Lord of the Rings films, will act as the production company.

No word yet on who will play Billy Batson or Captain Marvel, or the wizard Shazam. Johnson has a full plate, certainly, with upcoming projects that include two Fast and Furious films and two Journey movies, among others.
The Captain Marvel character was created in 1939 by artist C.C. Beck and writer Bill Parker. He first appeared in Faucett’s Whiz Comics #2 in February 1940, and went on to become the most popular superhero of the 1940s. His books even out-sold those featuring Superman. Eventually, the rights to the character were acquired by DC Comics, which recently changed the character’s name to “Shazam” in the New 52 universe to avoid more trademark issues with Marvel’s Captain Marvel (currently Carol Danvers).
