Celebrate an Out-of-This-World Holiday at the Kennedy Space Center

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – KENNEDY SPACE CENTER –  Does that vintage Apollo capsule toy bring back memories? Or maybe make you wish for a time when the final frontier was opening up to us? Then you need to get to the Kennedy Space Center to see “Through the Toy Box: An Out-of-this-World Collection” on display from November 29 through January 5. It’s part of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex the third annual “Holidays in Space.” In addition to the nearly 100 space-inspired toys- both vintage and contemporary, the Visitor Complex will be adorned with a stunning array of holiday decorations and host daily visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

100 Years, 100 Toys... From ray guns and space ships to coin banks and cosmic action figures, “Through the Toy Box: An Out-of-this-World Collection” represents mankind’s fascination with space in the form of toys. The collection features treasured toys children have used to play out their fantasies of space travel, some of whom turned those dreams into reality. The compilation of space-themed toys from around the world will be displayed in IMAX East alongside Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Meet Santa! Sitting on beautiful gold thrones and surrounded by a gorgeous Winter Wonderland scene, Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet visitors daily from Nov. 29 through Dec. 24. Each day, the first 200 children to visit Santa and receive a voucher for a free gift. Your family can also purchase the perfect family photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus, provided by Kodak.

ISS Decorations Bring the Blue Planet Together “Holidays in Space” wouldn’t be complete without festive space-themed décor throughout the Visitor Complex. A towering, 42-foot International Space Station (ISS)-themed Christmas tree located in the Rocket Garden will be adorned with warm-white bulbs, strobe lights and 600 miniature flags from the 15 ISS partner countries. The ISS mural just outside the Rocket Garden will be swathed in holiday candlelight. Decorative wreaths, garlands, lights, ribbons and bows throughout the Visitor Complex add to the holiday festival atmosphere.

Make Your Visit Even More Special! “Holidays in Space” is included in admission to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Souvenir photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus are available at an additional charge. While there, you can also meet an astronaut (including Fred Gregory, Jack Lousma, Sam Durrance, Don Thomas, and Jon McBride; see the KSC Events page for dates) and celebrate the 15th anniversary of the International Space Station with crew members from shuttle mission STS-88 on December 10.
