BREAKING: Ultron Casting
Marvel has just announced that actor James Spader will play Ultron in the next Avengers movie.
The Emmy Award winning actor is no stranger to science fiction, having played the original Dr. Daniel Jackson in Stargate. His credits also include Boston Legal (with William Shatner) and the upcoming series The Blacklist.
Spader will portray Ultron, the villain who faces off against the Avengers in Marvel’s Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, which was announced as the official title back at San Diego Comic Con. The announcement invited immediate commentary and some controversy among fandom, as Ultron has typically been associated with Hank Pym (Ant Man), who will not be in the movie. Pym reportedly won’t be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe until his own Phase 3 film Ant Man debuts. It’s possible he could get a cameo in Avengers 2, but likely not as the creator of Ultron.
This is after we got word from Unleash the Fanboy that the artificial intelligence J.A.R.V.I.S. was set to become Ultron, with Paul Bettany negotiating a new contract to possibly perform more than just the voice.
