Best TV bets for Halloween

First off, “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” will be on Thursday (Oct 27th) evening on ABC!

“Ghost Hunters” live. This year they’ll be spending 6 hours live at Pennhurst State School and Hospital.  Now usually I’m not into these “What the *bleep was that!” shows, but I always enjoy the history and if you watch it in the dark, they can be a little creepy.

Discovery Channel:

“How Evil are You?”  Horror film director Eli Roth will host this segment for the show “Curiosity” on the Discovery Channel. They will explore his mind with a brain scan, and are restaging the famous Milgram experiment (look it up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment ).  I will definitely tune into this one.

History Channel will have all kinds of cool stuff on  Saturday the 29th. Starting in the evening, they will be showing “The Real Dracula”, about Vlad the Imapler. After that is “The Real Story of Halloween”  followed by “Zombies: A Living History”.

Then lastly, ABC Family has been doing their 13 Nights of Halloween, so tune in anytime pretty much and you’ll run into a family friendly holiday film.  Like my favorite, Hocus Pocus will be on the evening of Saturday the 29th.  They’ll be showing other films such as Casper, Van Helsing, The Addams Family (both of them), Teen Witch (that 80’s cheese fest will be on Saturday a.m.). Check out the full schedule here.  http://abcfamily.go.com/schedule/?date=20111029

You could always watch something from John Carpenter.

If you’re not into watching TV, here is a list of my essential Halloween time films, to name a few:

Halloween

American Werewolf in London

Return of the Living Dead

Session 9

In the Mouth of Madness

Jeepers Creepers

Stir of Echoes

The Exorcist

A Nightmare on Elmstreet

Sleepy Hollow

The Nightmare before Christmas

Hocus Pocus

The Witches

What are some movies or shows you can’t go a Halloween without watching?

Molly Montgomery

Molly Montgomery was introduced to genre film by her dad as a kid -- if it was "Forbidden Planet" or Tod Browning's "Freaks", she can't remember which was first. She began her love affair with Vampires at age 11, and at age 12 she stopped sunbathing. A background in theater, filmmaking and sitting on her tush makes her a fairly knowledgeable nerd.
