Vesuvian Media Group has announced their publishing arm, Vesuvian Books, will be releasing their titles through the mobile application Tapas instead of first going through traditional publishing.
Tapas is a mobile app for both books and comics, and Vesuvian will take advantage of the platform with three selections from their 1st Quarter 2017 catalog: Blackwell by Alexandrea Weis with Luca Astor, Children of the Fifth Sun by Gareth Worthington, and The Secret Brokers by Alexadreas Weis. The titles are now available on the Tapas app, to be followed by publication in print and eBook in early 2017.
The move marks a strategic partnership between Tapas Media and Vesuvian, which has as a goal the rupture of traditional publishing models, taking into account the fact that so many authors are finding success in “hybrid” publishing — a combination of traditional and self-publishing — and working to take stories from concept to multiple media outlets.
“We are delighted to be launching Blackwell, Children of the Fifth Sun and The Secret Brokers on the Tapas platform,” said Italia Gandolfo CEO of Vesuvian Media Group. “They are instantly engaging titles that fit perfectly with Tapas’ unique mobile-based serialization. With a growing trend of people reading books on their mobile phones, we are proud to be working with Tapas to provide our readers with engaging page turners in whatever medium suits their lifestyle best.”

Blackwell by Alexandrea Weis with Luca Astor
In the late 1800s, handsome, wealthy New Englander, Magnus Blackwell, is the envy of all. When Magnus meets Jacob O’Conner—a Harvard student from the working class—an unlikely friendship is forged. But their close bond is soon challenged by a captivating woman; a woman Magnus wants, but Jacob gets. Devastated, Magnus seeks solace in a trip to New Orleans.
After a chance meeting with Oscar Wilde, he becomes immersed in a world of depravity and brutality, inevitably becoming the inspiration for Dorian Gray. Armed with the forbidden magic of voodoo, he sets his sights on winning back the woman Jacob stole from him. Amid the trappings of Victorian society, two men, bent on revenge, will lay the foundation for a curse that will forever alter their destinies.
Children of the Fifth Sun by Gareth Worthington
Thousands of years ago, an ancient species that evolved in the sea saved humanity; now a cocky, free-diving photographer tortured by his past is the unlikely hero who must save the last of their kind from a global race between nations to control the creature’s power.
Children of the Fifth Sun uses facts and theories to thread together many mysteries throughout our history; from the global flood and knowledge bringer myth, to the alignment of the Pyramids at Giza with the constellation of Orion, to the underwater city in the Indian Ocean, to the origin of the Antikythera mechanism – a 1,000 year-old computer, to the true reason for the reflecting pools believed to exist at the temple of Teotihuacan.
The Secret Brokers by Alexadreas Weis

The Tapas app is the first to offer a combination of free comics and paid book titles in the United States, with a web platform that reaches over one million active users monthly. It was recently featured in the top spots of “New Apps We Love” in the Apple store.
“We are thrilled to have three amazing Vesuvian titles join our library,” said Adrienne Horsley, VP of Content at Tapas. “From bite-sized episodes to binge-worthy reading marathons, Americans are now consuming books in ways never-before-seen in the traditional publishing world. The support and recognition from publishers like Vesuvian continue to prove that Tapas is a leader in meeting the needs of the modern reader.”
