The Geekly with a Twist: September 28th-October 4th

Well, finally, it’s Friday. AND we’re finally in Fall…AND it’s almost October…yay! Have you all gotten a start on your Halloween costumes yet? I’m finishing the design on mine but I’ve got a lot of work to do so, no more stalling…onward with the history!

September 29th, 1942: Madeline Kahn, the hilarious beauty in several Mel Brooks works (among other films) is born in Boston, Massachusetts.

September 29th, 1942: Ian McShane, the man behind Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as a number of many other iconic roles over the last 50 years, is born in Blackburn, England.

…hmmm…space-y looking…I guess.

September 29th, 1962: Canada launches its first satellite, Alouette 1, from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

September 29th, 1974: Alexis Cruz, the actor behind Skaara in the Stargate universe (who is also working on a new graphic novel) is born in New York City. (We got the chance to talk with Alexis here in Kansas City at Con X, you should check it out!)

September 30th, 1953: S.M. Stirling, the scifi author known for his works in alternate history, is born in Metz, France.

October 1st, 1958: NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) becomes operational, officially replacing NACA (the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics).

October 3rd 1973 or 1976: While Wikipedia’s not quite sure on her actual age, the woman who looks like she was born much later, Lena Headey (yes, that wonderfully evil actress behind Cersei Lannister as well as the one with roles in everything from 300 to the new Dredd movie) is born in Bermuda.

So, of course, it’s definitely time to Twist this week up. How about a House Lannister for your troubles (after all, a Lannister always pays his debts)?

  • 2 parts ginger ale
  • 1 part Lillet
  • A splash of Goldschläger

Shake ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a cherry…or, even, you can rim your glass with gold sanding sugar!

And, well, you’ve gotta Garnish your week, so how about this?!

The folks who do Honest Trailers are awesome, I wasted my evening watching their stuff after they popped up on my Facebook wall.

So, anyways, that’s it, I’m done for the week. Well, at least on this. I need to work on some other stuffs. So, until next week, ttfn and geek on!
