The Doctor is In!

BBC America released a new teaser for the upcoming eight season of Doctor Who! The show will premiere August 23:

BBC AMERICA has announced the premiere date for the eighth season of Doctor Who. The feature-length episode, entitled “Deep Breath,” will air Saturday, August 23 at 8:00pm ET. The episode ushers in an exciting new era for the show as Peter Capaldi (The Musketeers, The Thick of It) steps into the role of the Doctor. Fans first got a glimpse of Capaldi’s Doctor in November’s 50thAnniversary Special, and again in the final minutes of last year’s Christmas Special, but the upcoming season premiere marks the first full episode for the Twelfth Doctor.

Capaldi will be joined by Jenna Coleman (Death Comes to Pemberley), who returns as companion Clara Oswald, and Samuel Anderson (History Boys, Gavin & Stacey) who joins the cast as Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where Clara also works. Previously announced guest stars include Ben Miller (Primeval, Death in Paradise), Keeley Hawes (Line of Duty, Upstairs, Downstairs), and Tom Riley (Da Vinci’s Demons).

Leading up to the premiere, Capaldi and Coleman will appear together in the US for the first time when they arrive in New York on Thursday, August 14 as part of the first ever Doctor Who World Tour. The largest promotional undertaking in the show’s 50-year history, the tour will kick off in Cardiff, Wales before heading to London, Seoul, Sydney, New York, Mexico City, and Rio de Janeiro.

Stars Speak Out

Michael Trevino spoke about season six of The Vampire Diaries and what’s in store for his character, Tyler, who, at the end of season five found himself not only alive, but a human, with his werewolf gene un-triggered.

Season 6 is going to be a new chapter for everybody. We’re all wiping the slate clean and everything is new. Some time will have passed from the season finale when we pick back up in the beginning ofSeason 6 and for Tyler, it’s going to be a whole new world for him.

It’s exciting but scary. He doesn’t have his supernatural abilities anymore in a supernatural world, so how can he protect himself? But it’s also nice because now, maybe he won’t have to deal with all the extracurriculars that come with being a hybrid or being a werewolf or being a vampire..

I feel like he’s kind of in the danger zone a bit because he’s not able to protect himself but he’s still aware of all this supernatural activity going on, so I’m curious to see if he’s going to stay involved with the supernatural world as far as the friends that he has. Or, is he going to try and break away and live a normal life?

He also confirmed what we’ve all suspected since the end of season five. Forewood is done, ladies and gentleman, and while Caroline and Tyler will remain friends, their romance is finished. But we will be looking forward to a more mature Tyler, who is not obsessed with his never ending quest to kill Klaus.

Trevino’s co-star Steven R. McQueen talked about his own hopes when it comes to his character, Jeremy Gilbert:

Ben McKenzie & the cast talked to DC Entertainment about Gotham, and you can watch the video below:

Casting News

Turn actress Heather Lind will guest star in Season 2 of Sleepy Hollow as Mary Wells, an old flame of Ichabod’s from England. While at first pleasant and sweet, Mary has a darker side — and will prove to be flighty, moody and prone to fits of extreme jealousy.

Rescue Me‘s Andrea Roth joined Ascension, Syfy’s forthcoming six-hour limited series set in the far reaches of space. PJ Boudousque (Pretty Little Liars) was also cast. The series stars Cougar Town‘s Brian Van Holt as the captain of the titular vessel, which was launched into space by the U.S. government in 1963 to populate a new world. The series picks up 50 years into the mission, as a mysterious murder causes those on board to question the true nature of their mission. Roth will play Juliet Bryce, the head doctor on the Ascension. Her relationship with her daughter Nora (Jacqueline Byers) has been difficult and strained for a while and the murder on board the ship has made it worse. Boudousque, meanwhile, co-stars as one of the starship’s maintenance workers.
