New FRIDAY THE 13TH in the Works

Banner_HorrorNews

Variety reports that Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski is in talks to write the next entry in the Friday the 13th franchise for Paramount Pictures.

The 13th installment in the movie series will be produced by Micheal Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller under their Platinum Dunes shingle. And while plot details aren’t in the open, speculation is that the story will see a visit to Crystal Lake and the return of Jason Voorhees (instead of a Jason wanna-be).

No word on whether this project will replace the recently announced series in development at the CW, announced earlier this year by network president Mark Pedowitz.

The most recent Friday the 13th sequel was produced by Platinum Dunes, New Line, and Warner Bros. in 2009. In order to co-produce Interstellar, WB traded the 13th rights to Paramount, where Platinum Dunes has a first look deal.

Bay’s production company has also rebooted The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, adding a prequel to that mix, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. The company also has produced Ouija and its sequel, along with the Transformers movies.

Guzikowski is also set to write the script for the remake of Papillon and Universal’s reboot of The Wolf Man.
