Marvel Television Announcing Casting for INHUMANS and Untitled X-MEN Series
Marvel Television is actively working on two of its newest shows and has casting news to show for it. 20th Century Fox TV has teamed up with the company for the still untitled X-Men project from Matt Nix. Bryan Singer is directing the pilot for the series, which will follow a family with mutant children who have to go on the run from a hostile government.
Jamie Chung, who played Valerie Vale on Gotham and Mulan on Once Upon A Time, is set to join Blair Redford (Switched at Birth), who plays Sam, the strong-headed leader of the underground mutant network that the family joins in order to survive. Chung’s character, Blink, whose real name is Clarice Fong, is sarcastic, lively, and a bit of a tomboy.
Nix, who penned the pilot, will also serve as executive producer along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory, and Singer.
Marvel Television has also teamed up with ABC to work on Inhumans, a series about a race of superhumans with unique powers who must protect themselves. Scott Buck, who’s known for his work on Dexter and Iron Fist, another Marvel show that’s set to be released March 17 on Netflix, created and will executive produce the new series.
Inhumans, which was ordered straight-to-series, will explore the story of Black Bolt and the royal family of Attilan. Maximus, the king’s brother, is fiercly devoted to his people, but also secretly wants the crown for himself. Loeb and Chory, who also executive produce the aforementioned X-Men series, are joining Buck to executive produce this series, as well. Roel Raine is set to direct the first two episodes, which will premier in IMAX theaters over the Labor Day weekend for a two week run before the extended episodes air on ABC during the network’s fall season launch.
Iwan Rheon, who rose to fame as Ramsay Bolton on HBO’s Game of Thrones, will be playing Maximus, who, according to Buck, “is a complex character. Likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment.”
Regarding Rheon’s casting, Loeb commented, “Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Fans of Game of Thrones know exactly what Rheon can bring to a villainous character. Ramsay ranked among the likes of Joffrey Baratheon as one of the most hated characters on the show because of his absolute brutality, and Rheon garnered multiple award nominations because of it, including Best TV Villain and Best Actor. Seeing him expand in another villain role should be quite thrilling for followers of the actor.
