Kevin Smith Announces He-Man Anime

Kevin Smith is taking the reigns and bring Eternia back for an epic battle between He-Man and Skeletor.

Last week at Power-Con, Smith, better known as Silent Bob from Clerks, announced that he will act as show-runner and executive producer of Netflix and Mattel TV’s project Masters of the Universe: Revelation, which will resolve some of the stories from the classic 80’s television series.

“I am Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Greyskull, but also their entire universe.” Smith said in a press release.

Revelation, Smith says, picks up right where the classic era left off with what could be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor. From the official release:

A radical return to Eternia, Revelation is a direct sequel series to the classic era of Masters of the Universe. Featuring fan favorites He-Man, Orko, Cringer, and Man-At-Arms, the story pits our heroic warriors and guardians of Castle Grayskull against Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Beast Man and the vile legions of Snake Mountain!

But after a ferocious final battle forever fractures Eternia, it’s up to Teela to solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to prevent the end of the Universe! Her journey will uncover the secrets of Grayskull at last. This is the epic He-Man and the Master of the Universe saga fans have waited 35 years to see!

Production company Powerhouse Animation, creators of Netflix Castlevania, is coming with some pretty metal character designs.

“This is the Masters of the Universe you always wanted to see as a kid,” Smith said.

The show will have as its executive producer Rob David, vice president of Mattel TV and author of He-Man: The Eternity War. The writers room includes Smith’s podcast co-host Marc Bernardin, Eric Carraasco (Supergirl), Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering), and Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen).

No release date was announced at Power-Con.
