Disney’s A WRINKLE IN TIME Cast is Complete, Production Underway
The cast of Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time is complete, and production has begun on the adaptation of the first in the Time Quintet stories.
Along with Peña, eight-year-old Deric McCabe has been selected to play Charles Wallace, the gifted young boy at the center of the story. This is McCabe’s fourth role. His mother posted a heartfelt Instagram slideshow of her son’s journey, mentioning his hard work, patience, persistence, and continuation in spending time with family, doing chores, and excelling in school.
The two will be joining an all-star cast that includes Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Zach Galifianaskis, Bellamy Young, Ryan Blanchard, and Will McCormack. Newcomer Storm Reid will play the lead character, Meg. Recently Chris Pine, Andre Holland, and Levi Miller were also announced.
The film based on Madeleine L’Engle’s classic Newbery Prize winning novel is about Meg, her brother Charles, and their friend Calvin (Miller) as they travel to different worlds and dimensions looking for their scientist father (Pine) who disappeared after working on a mysterious project called a tesseract with her fellow scientist mother (Mbatha-Raw). The stellar cast rounds out the beings they encounter on their search. L’Engle’s book has sold more than 23 million copies worldwide and been translated into 35 languages.
A Wrinkle In Time is directed by Ava DuVernay and produced by Jim Whitaker and Catherin Hand. Jennifer Lee penned the screenplay. The production begins shooting in Los Angeles this week and will then travel for a two-week shoot in New Zealand.
