DC Films Speed Bump: THE FLASH Loses Director Number Two
The Flash (the movie, not the TV show) has hit another bump in the road with the departure of director Rick Famuyiwa, according to a report in Variety.
The departure comes while the film is well into pre-production, looking toward a release March 16, 2018. Sources tell Variety that “creative differences” caused the split, and it follows in the wake of the film’s first director, Seth Grahame-Smith, also leaving over “creative differences” back in April.
“When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day. I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor,” Famuyiwa said in a statement. “I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Brothers, DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns, and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force.”
Besides Grahame-Smith leaving the helm of this same project, the solo Wonder Woman also had a director swap with Patty Jenkins stepping in after Michelle McLaren left the project.
No word on how (or if) this will impact the production schedule. Casting has been moving forward, with Kiersey Clemons set as Iris West and Billy Crudup as Henry Allen. According to the report, Warner Bros. should have a third director in place shortly. The studio has yet to issue any comments on the situation.
