CW Pushes CHARMED and LOST BOYS Reboots Back
The CW has pushed back its reboots of Charmed and Lost Boys till next season. The network seems to be sticking with a six pilot pickup like last year, and those slots have been filled. Both adaptations are from producers who are important to the network.
Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin) will be producing the Charmed reboot. It’s said to be set in 1976 and will involve three strangers who are forced together, but who can still invoke the Power of Three like the original sisters. It’s unclear exactly how the new witches will be linked to the original show, which ran from 1998-2006 on The WB.
The initial Charmed draft didn’t turn out the way the network had hoped, and Urman was busy working on the third season of Jane and was unable commit the time needed on the reboot. Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin, both writers on Jane the Virgin, wrote this initial draft. Ben Silverman of Propagate Content executive produces Jane and is set to do the same for Charmed. Brad Silberling, who directs Jane, will also help executive produce, and he may direct the pilot, as well. The show comes from CBS Studios, who announced their plan to reboot it three years ago.
Lost Boys, based on the 1987 vampire flick starring Keifer Sutherland, Corey Haim, and Corey Feldman, is planned to be a seven season reimagining of the original movie. The show, which comes from Warner Bros. Television, is set to cover a decade per season, starting in 1967’s San Francisco. The characters, stories, and settings are expected to change each season, but the core vampires will remain the same.
Rob Thomas (iZombie) will write and executive produce the show along with Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge. Additional executive producers include Gulfstream’s Juliana Janes, Mike Karz and Bill Bindley. Thomas has wrapped his third season of iZombie, so he’ll continue to focus his time on working out the new reboot show for next season.
