Come On In, the Water Is Fine… But It’s GRIMM

Episode 508 “Reptile Dysfunction”

And we’re back to classic Grimm! I like it. Why? Because this is what the show has been built on. It’s what fans have come to expect and enjoy. I’m pretty sure if the Grimm formula wasn’t popular, it would not be in its fifth season.

Yes, there are a few new twists to this classic Grimm. Using Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni), as they did is not how they closed Wesen cases in season 1 or 2. I think this works better than the old way. Trubel gets to get her Grimm on. Nick (David Giuntoli), handles the case like an actual detective, sort of.

It’s mostly a win, win. The murder, is well murdered. The back stabbing, double-crossing, paying to have more people killed, Wayne is killed by the people he attracted with the Diamond Lake Monster hoax. Orville is arrested. I’m not sure what he was charged with. And all of it was done without revealing the Wesen connections. The only downside would be that the sheriff probably can’t close the case with the information he has. Which means this will become a cold case.

The other storyline was about Hadrian’s Wall and recruiting Nick, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), and Rosalee (Bree Turner) into the organization. Part of wooing Nick, included showing him his Mother’s grave. That was probably meant to give him closure or somehow give him reason to join their ranks.

I doubt that the offer of working with Eve (Bitsie Tulloch) would be enough incentive for Nick. He tried again to get answers from Eve for things Juliette did. It’s really like beating a dead horse. He’s not going to get the kind of answers or closure he’s looking for. The question becomes, can he find his own version of closure? Will he put all that behind him to join this Wesen war? Or is Eve correct that he’s still too emotional?

A past storyline made a brief return in the scene of Renard (Sasha Roiz) being groomed for his next TV spot supporting the mayoral candidate, Dixon. Well, groomed may not be the correct term. He was also being seduced.

I’m pretty sure Renard and Dixon are going to be at odds and I predict there will be a bigger story to this.

Some significant story elements and characters were missing this week. No one mentioned the massacre of the Wesen Council. Alexander didn’t make an appearance. There wasn’t any romance between Nick and Adalind (Claire Coffee). Adalind is still not showing any signs of regaining her Hexenbiest powers. There was no mention of Baby Diana.

Next week looks like it’ll be a creepier subject. I may need the lights on and someone to hold my hand while I watch it. Kammie, got room on your couch?

Grimm airs Friday nights at 9/8c on NBC.
