Episode 405 “Lockup”
Written by Nora Zuckerman & Lilla Zuckerman
Directed by Kate Woods

This week, our principle action takes place in a prison, with everyone going after Uncle Eli to tap into whatever knowledge he has about the great experiment that went awry — and we find out a little more detail on just where Joe and Lucy found the Darkhold, which they used as a shortcut for their machine.

It’s the perfect storm for the show to deliver to us a prison break movie in the middle of the episode, with some fine fight choreography and an aftermath scene between May and Daisy that has just the right amount of emotional resonance. And that’s perfectly offset by Agent Coulson with the tie, back at his post and bugging May about her insights on death — all the while they’re breaking into the prison, which has been compromised by the Ghosts of Quantum Physics Past.

Meanwhile, back at S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ, Jemma is having fits over the polygraph test in her future, and Fitz is having fits that she’s having fits about his not telling her about AIDA. And just as her polygraph starts to go south, Director Mace brings her in to help him with a live interview. What results is interesting, until it gets smacked by a Hand of the Writer…
