News over the weekend on several franchises getting new entries:

Resident Evil

At a launch for the TV series Shades of Guilt at the Mipcom TV market in Cannes, Constantin Film executive board chairman Martin Moszkowicz confirmed the news that the company will be developing a new TV series based on the video game. The show would follow the next (and what appears to be final) installment in the film series.

No word on the story for the sixth RE film, but Constantin is the production company involved in those as well, leading some to wonder if there may be some crossover between the two projects.

The Mortal Instruments

Moszkowicz also confirmed that Constantin will be developing The Mortal Instruments as a TV property as well. He tells Variety that Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (which was supposed to be the first of a franchise) took in more than $100 million and has been doing well on DVD. “Overall the picture will turn a profit — something that not all movies do,” he said. In spite of that, though, Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes was cancelled in 2013.

Ed Decter (Unforgettable, The Client List, In Plain Sight) has been attached to the series as showrunner, according to unconfirmed reports. Moszcowicz says the show will begin production next year.

Underworld

IGN’s Roth Cornet caught up with Sleepy Hollow executive producers Len Wiseman and Mark Goffman, and Wiseman confirmed that there’s more Underworld in the works. Specifically, a “spinoff” movie that could feature Theo James reprising his David character (this from a story in THR back in September), as well as another film being developed for Kate Beckinsale, arguably the biggest reason anyone watches the Underworld movies. Plus, Wiseman also dropped the news that a television series was also in the works. However, he made clear that it’s not certain which of these projects will be moving forward first.
