Two More Actors Join HELLBOY Reboot
Two more actors have been added to an already stellar cast for the Hellboy reboot. One is the newly discovered Sasha Lane, who will play a significant role in the reboot. The other is Hemlock Grove‘s Penelope Mitchell, who will be playing an elder witch who aids Hellboy in the fight against the Blood Queen.
Sasha Lane’s big breakout role was as Star in American Honey, a story of a young woman who gets caught up in a wild group of misfits selling magazines door to door. The actress was a freshman at Texas State when she was picked out by the writer/director of American Honey, Andrea Arnold, while lying on a beach in Florida during spring break.
Since American Honey, she’s been in demand for indie films, including The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Shotgun, Shoplifters of the World, and a science fiction movie called Hunting Lila. Hellboy will be her first major studio production.
Lane will play Alice Monaghan, a girl from Ireland whom Hellboy rescues from the fairies. She was stolen as an infant, and retains some supernatural gifts from the fairies. One of those gifts is longevity, so she may be older than the 21 year old actress appears to be. Rumor has it that she is a potential love interest and helps Hellboy against the Blood Queen (Milla Jovovich).
Penelope Mitchell, known for playing Letha Godfrey on Hemlock Grove and Liv Parker on The Vampire Diaries has just joined the cast, playing a witch named Ganeida. According to Deadline, Ganeida is described as “an elder witch who has decided that Nimue’s [The Blood Queen] wrath has gone on for too long and must be stopped.”
The two actors join a well known cast. David Harbour, who is currently playing Chief Hopper on the Netflix hit Stranger Things, is Hellboy. Ian Mcshane is the man who adopted Hellboy, Professor Trevor Broom (AKA Bruttenholm). Hellboy’s adoptive father was played by the late and very much missed John Hurt in the original movies. Milla Jovovich, of The Fifth Element and the Resident Evil series, is playing Hellboy’s arch enemy, Nimue the Blood Queen.
There is no word yet on who will replace Ed Skrein, who dropped out of the production so that someone more appropriate could be cast for the role of Major Ben Daimio.
Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) is directing and production is slated to start in September.
