The Geekly with a Twist: September 23rd-29th

Well all, I’m stuck at work late this week and, as such, have plenty of boredom time for your weekly installment of Geekly!

September 23rd, 1642: Harvard College in Cambridge, MA has its first commencement.

September 23rd, 1846: The planet Neptune is discovered by Johann Gottfried Galle.

September 23rd, 1962: ABC premieres “The Jetsons.”  Not only was it an awesome futuristic cartoon, it was also the first program on the channel to be shown in color.

September 24th, 1936: Puppeteer and creator of The Muppets, Jim Henson, is born in Greenville, Mississippi.

September 24th, 1958: The man now synonymous with the role of Hercules, Kevin Sorbo, is born in Mound, Minnesota.  (Side note, his recent cameo on The Guild Season 5, Episode 8 is hilarious…you must check it out!)

September 25th, 1951: Another man synonymous with the role he played, Mark Hamill, is born in Concord, California.

September 25th, 1952: Yet another man synonymous with his role, Christopher Reeve, is born in New York City.

September 25th, 1992: The Mars Observer blasts off from Cape Canaveral.  The project, which cost an estimated $980 million, had to be scrapped after there was a communications loss (a connection which has never been reestablished).  (I totally blame the Martians…they don’t want us meddling. 😉 )

September 26th, 1991-1993: 8 people lived for 2 years inside of the “Biosphere II.”  They were completely sealed in and were to live solely off of the atmosphere of the structure.

September 28th, 1997: The DVD format is officially debuted at the 103rd convention of the Audio Engineering Society in New York City.

September 29th, 1963: “My Favorite Martian” premieres on CBS.

September 29th, 1988: The first manned space shuttle since the Challenger disaster blasts off from Cape Canaveral.  Discovery remained in use until its official decommissioning on March 9th of this year.

Aaaaaand to finish your week off with a Twist, why not try The T-Virus Shot courtesy of this week’s Find of the Week!

“T-Virus (Resident Evil Shot)

Ingredients:
3/4 shot Silver Rum
1/4 shot Everclear
1 Blue Twizzler

Directions: Wind a blue Twizzler around a tall double shot glass.  It should stick to the sides of the glass.  Pour in the silver rum and top with the Everclear.  Drink, then eat the Twizzler for a sweet and tangy aftertaste. You will have to fish out the Twizzler with your finger after you drink, as it will still be stuck to the side of the shot glass.”
