SUPERGIRL Casts Lucy Lane

CBS has announced that Jenna Dewan Tatum has joined the cast as Lucy Lane.

The younger sister of Lois Lane, Lucy first appeared in the pages of Jimmy Olsen’s solo title in 1959. Created by writer Otto Binder and artist Curt Swan, Lucy has had a number of iterations over the years, first as a flight attendant, then an air traffic controller, to a member of the military. She’s also had time wearing a cape as one of the versions of Superwoman.

Lucy is described as funny, brash (and obviously beautiful) and heads to Supergirl’s town to “right a previous wrong.” She also has friends in high places; she has a history with James Olsen, played by actor Mehcad Brooks.

Her on-and-off relationship with Olsen will likely be the center of her initial arc, although her military history in the comics could come into play as well, with the possibility she could be part of Hank Henshaw’s squad. She’s also got a connection to Reactron, a villain already confirmed to appear in the first season of the show.

Tatum will first appear in the third episode. Her “geek cred” includes roles in Witches of East End and American Horror Story. She was also a regular on NBC’s The Playboy Club.

The Lucy Lane role was last played by Peyton List on Smallville from 2005 to 2010. List now plays Lisa Snart, also known as Golden Glider, on The Flash.

Supergirl bows on CBS on October 26.
