STAR TREK BEYOND Tops China Box Office

BANNER_News2013

Star Trek Beyond took top marks in the Chinese box office this weekend, despite a 66% drop from week one. The Justin Lin-helmed sequel pulled in $11.3 million from Friday to Sunday after a $33.3 million opening weekend.

Overall, the film has earned a worldwide total of $318 million+ with $156 million of that being domestic US box office performance. However, the third entry in the rebooted franchise (now officially the “Kelvin Timeline”) opened 15% lower than its predecessor, Star Trek Into Darkness. The franchise has continued to decline in box office performance since the reboot.

Beyond‘s win in China helped it take the top spot in the international market, with another $11.3 coming from the Middle Kingdom. The film seems to be performing better internationally, even though the opening in Mexico was down 20%.

The current installment has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 83%.
