MST3K Coming to RiffTrax

BANNER_News2013

In the not too distant future, somewhere in time and space, the fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 have reason to rejoice.

In a video released on the RiffTrax YouTube channel, Mike Nelson announced the addition of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes available to stream and download on the RiffTrax website.

For those of you unaware, RiffTrax is one of the spiritual successors to the cult classic TV series that started on cable access, moved to Comedy Central, and then once again moved over to The Sci Fi Channel. While not always genre-based (their riff on Mitchell, for example), the combination of genre movies being notoriously bad back in the day with the ease of getting the rights to said movies meant that a high number of genre movies were used during the run of the series.

RiffTrax expanded onto the basic concept of ‘riffing’ on movies, with most of them being done by MST3K alums Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy. The trio have even been doing occasional live events in partnership with Fathom Events, and you can hear my interview with Nelson from 2013 here from when they were promoting one of them, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.

Titling it #MST3KMonday, the first releases will be fan favorites The Pumaman and The Final Sacrifice, with new ones every Monday. Each release will have an exclusive introduction by Nelson. The two currently available are priced at $9.97 and are DRM free.

For more information or to download them, visit the RiffTrax website.
