Michael Bay Returning to Direct TRANSFORMERS 5
Director Micheal Bay will be back to helm the next entry in the Transformers franchise.
Bay confirmed the news in an interview with Rolling Stone: “I’m doing Transformers … 5, is it?” Bay told the magazine. “Transformers, I still have a great time. It’s fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else… J.J. [Abrams] told me, ‘You’re the only guy that could do this.’ But it’s time to move on. One more.”
Transformers 5 (yet to have a secondary title) is being written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man) along with Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down). Mark Wahlberg will reprise his role from Transformers: Age of Extinction.
There’s also this on-location video from the set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, produced by Bay, in which Bumblebee looks to be making a cameo appearance during a parade scene shot in New York City:
Rolling Stone also reports on a conference call between Bay and Industrial Light & Magic, in which he reviewed test footage that included an alien spaceship crash-landed underwater, along with a new “dump-truck Transformer with a cloak” — perhaps the Decepticon Long Haul?
Despite what you may think of his work, Bay continues to deliver hits. He’s currently the fourth most successful director of all time with $5 billion plus over his eleven films. His next film, 13 Hours, is currently in theaters.
Transformers 5 is set for release in 2017.
