Episode 504 “Maiden Quest”

This week I recorded the podcast by myself. It’s not easy talking to yourself and trying to remain coherent. I’ve always held that talking to yourself is not the problem. It’s when you’re actually surprised by the answer that you might want to consider help.
This episode harks back to days long ago of chivalrous knights and fair maidens. Only these are Wesen and the maiden, Emily, is more than capable of handling herself in a dark alley. Our Wesen this week are Weten Ogen, a lynx like creature. Their tradition of the Maagd Zoektocht is ancient, and in my opinion, has not kept up with the times. It’s meant to test three suitors in a quest for the hand of a particularly eligible young lady.
In some ways women’s lib has not hit the Wesen community. You see examples of strong women in high profile jobs, but then you have these ancient traditions and rituals rooted in a Patriarchal system. This Maagd Zoektocht is an example of this. No one asked Emily if she wanted any of these suitors. At one point it seems that she does want the second suitor, and then that passes.
The quest set to the three young Weten Ogen is to bring Troyer, Emily’s father, Frankie Adkins’ head. Troyer blames Frankie for his own son’s death. Now he only has a daughter left to take over his business and assets. Why he didn’t take care of Frankie in the same shady manner that probably resulted in his son’s death, I don’t know. But he puts three young men in danger and at odds with societal laws. Hey, let’s draw attention to our Wesen ways. Now that I think about it, maybe this is a continuation of the Wesen uprising storyline.
Frankie is not a likable kind of guy. It’s hard to empathize with him hope he doesn’t get killed. I actually was hoping at least the second suitor would make it. Not that he was sweet and cuddly. He wasn’t. Did he deserve to have his throat ripped out? I don’t think so. But then that’s me playing judge and jury. Guess that makes me kind of like Nick.
If you’re in law enforcement, if you have detective expertise, if you have more information than the average person like me, please let me know if how things work on Grimm are normal? Or is this done just for Grimm and how Nick handles his cases? I really want to know and I don’t have the background to know how these things actually work. If you can help me out on this, I’d really appreciate it. I suspect that most of this is hand of the writer, as we say on SciFi4Me.com.
The thing that might be important that I missed on my podcast has to do with Captain Renard. Renard goes to an informal coffee meeting. We haven’t seen the political side of the police department. But, let’s be honest if you’ve been part of any organization you know there are politics involved. This is actual politics. The guys Renard is meeting with are seeking his baking for a mayoral candidate. He asks what the gentleman’s plans and platform is. Seems that Renard wants to know who he might be backing. Refreshing.
Trubel is back! Talk about making an entrance! This young lady has it in spades! Maybe next week we’ll get some answers. Maybe. But did you see the promo with the “Rat King”? Good grief. I hope it’s not as silly as it looks.
