Go Go Reboot: New Live Action INSPECTOR GADGET
The latest story universe to get an update: Inspector Gadget, which will get a new big-screen treatment via Dan Lin and Lin Pictures. Gadget, Penny, and Brain will all return to face their nemesis, Doctor Claw.
The live-action reboot from Walt Disney Pictures is based on the cartoon that starred Don Adams (Get Smart) as the police detective who’d been turned into a cyborg. With a flip of his hat and the words “Go Go Gadget (fill in the blank)” he could manifest all sorts of devices from his fedora. Adams had a voice cameo in the first live action incarnation of the show, which starred Matthew Broderick as Gadget.
While it spawned a live-action straight-to-DVD sequel starring French Stewart, the two films weren’t as popular as hoped, and the franchise faded away. Recently, an updated CGI series premiered on Netflix, paving the way for a new version to hit the big screen.
Lin Pictures has a track record that includes The LEGO Movie, Sherlock Holmes, and Gangster Squad. Lin is currently developing a third Sherlock with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law expected to return as Holmes and Watson, respectively, along with a LEGO sequel.
