DOCTOR WHO RETURNS! A Video Primer For Saturday.

Greetings Lads and Lasses!

With the oh-so-welcome return of DOCTOR WHO to our screens almost upon us, AND the equally, if not more welcome news that Matt Smith will be continuing as The Doctor through at least 2014, let’s take a look at the wealth of video the BBC has provided for us in the lead up to “The Bells Of Saint John”, shall we? We shall.

This second half of Series 7 sees the official arrival of Clara Oswald as The Doctor’s new Companion, complete with an ongoing mystery about her true nature, which, to be honest, I’m much happier about than the first half of the season’s stand alone series of episodes. One of the things I enjoy most about the new series storytelling is the season long arcs, some more subtle than others, tis true, and while one could argue that the first half of the season was an extended goodbye to the Ponds, the linkage of stories was minimal. The absence of something like the Cracks in Time, The Doctor’s Death, and even Bad Wolf, was noticeable to me, and, if you’ve read my reviews, handily available here on this very site, you’ll have noticed that I thought the first half of the season was all over the place in quality. Hopefully the mystery of Clara and the build up to the 50th Anniversary will make this second half much stronger.

So let’s kick things off with our two Series 7.5 trailers:

I have to say that what I’m seeing here is giving me a lot of hope for the episodes to come, not least of which is Neil Gaiman’s “Nightmare In Silver”, and it’s promised return of the Mondas Cybermen. As someone who was not a fan of the alternate universe version, I’m quite excited about the real return of what is arguably one of WHO’s top 3 Bad Guys.
And since I personally think “The Doctor’s Wife” was one of the finest episodes since the show returned, I’m dying to see what Gaiman will do with them. I’m liking the redesign… it’s definitely a callback to the Original Series, and thankfully, not so bloody clunky looking. And with the Ice Warriors, or at least an Ice Warrior returning as well, it looks like quite the exciting build up to the Anniversary Special.

Ok… on to “The Bells Of Saint John”! Here we have the trailer, plus a couple of episode clips, as well as the Prequel Webisode. Let’s take a look…

And there you have it folks! Not a bad little setup for this Saturday, yes? I’ll have the review coming after, but what do you think about what we’ve seen so far? Excited?  I have to say I am, but I’d love to hear from you!
