BRAINDEAD Ordered to Series – Insert Political Joke Here

Wednesday morning CBS officially unveiled its next summer-series order for 2016. BrainDead is a one-hour comic-thriller about an eager young Capitol Hill staffer who starts her first job in Washington only to discover that the federal government has stopped working because aliens have eaten their brains.

This straight-series order comes from The Good Wife creators/executive producers Robert and Michelle King. It is the first project the Kings will produce as part of their three-year producing deal with CBS Television Studios, as Deadline Hollywood reported here. That deal keeps the Kings in control of CBS’ acclaimed courtroom drama but with room to develop new projects.

“We wanted to do a show that was a mix of genre-pulp and high-brow politics,” said the Kings in CBS’ press release, adding, “It seemed like the best way to address the news today – not straight, but as the opening act of a horror movie.”

BrainDead is CBS’ latest summer-series order, following Under the Dome, Extant and Zoo. It will be distributed domestically by CBS Television Distribution and worldwide by CBS Studios International in summer 2016.
