Fox Wins Pitch for THE BEAUTY INSIDE With Emilia Clarke
Fox 2000 and Temple Hill have beat out five competitors, paying $2 million for a pitch to adapt Byuti Insaideu, a South Korean film, to English. The film is based on Drake Doremus’ web series, The Beauty Inside.
The proposal comes from screenwriting team Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. Their work includes The Fault in Our Stars, 500 Days of Summer, and Paper Towns. They are also writing the script for Fox’s marvel mutant franchise spinoff film X-Men: The New Mutants. The deal also comes with Game of Thrones and newly cast unnamed character in the Star Wars Han Solo film, Emilia Clarke. Greg Chou, Marty Bowen, and Wyck Godfrey are set to produce.
The story is about Alex, a man in a supernatural dilemma: he wakes up every day in a different body, changing genders, ages, and ethnicities. The one consistency of his ever-changing life is the woman he loves, Clarke, who also knows his secret. However, he must re-win her heart with each transformation.
Doremus developed the social film starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Topher Grace, who played Alex’s internal dialog, in 2012. The series had six episodes that included interactive storytelling, allowing the audience to be a part of the film through Alex’s Facebook timeline, which also included real-time conversations as well as the filmed episodes. It was Hollywood’s’ first social film, allowing the audience a chance to play the lead role, through photos and videos, adding to his story. It became a cult hit, even winning a daytime Emmy for Outstanding New Approach to an Original Daytime Program or Series. Then in 2015, the series was adapted for the big screen in South Korea, directed by Jong-Yeol Baek and starred Kim Sang-Ho, Kim Min-jae, and Jo Dal-hwan.
Currently the production crew is searching for the many actors needed to play the male lead.
The Beauty Inside is expected to begin filming sometime this year.
