Movin’ On Up

OK. You may have noticed we’ve not posted many articles over the past week. I can assure you, we’re still writing them. But we’re having some technical issues caused by a circumstance that we hadn’t anticipated happening this soon into our run on WordPress.

We’re out of space.

As it works now, our WordPress account allows for a certain amount of storage space for media — audio files, images, etc. — that accompany all of our posts. Since November 2010, we’ve added quite a few images and podcasts, and it’s added up quite rapidly. The short-term answer is to go through and delete the files that aren’t being used, because especially in the case of episode recaps, we usually upload quite a few more images than we actually use in the article.

So, we’re going through each and every image — one by one — and deleting what we can to make room for new media. Along the way, we’re saving files to an off-site archive in anticipation for the next step in our evolution: the move to another server and the launch of SciFi4Me 3.0.

Since 2.0 went live in November 2010, we’ve seen some great expansions — both in our audience and in our volunteer staff — and now we’ve outgrown the site parameters on the WordPress platform and are in the process of packing everything up to move to another server — one that allows for more storage and more flexibility.

In the coming weeks, things are going to be sporadic, and they may be missing images, just because we’re focused on wrapping and boxing.

But we’re still keeping an eye on the news, and the TV shows, and the movies. And Live From the Bunker will continue both on BlogTalkRadio and Livestream. Both of those channels are going to come in handy, especially the Livestream. We’ll be posting more from the archives, and very soon we’ll be adding more live content as we’re able.

We’re also in the early stages of bringing back Comic Con Carne, our comic book news program, which will return this summer.

In the meantime, please be patient as we work toward building a new site that delivers more content and reaches more people. SciFi4Me was built for you, and we appreciate everyone staying with us over the years. Growing pains are never fully enjoyable, but the results — we hope — will be, in the words of Dave Bowman, “Something wonderful.”
