The Geekly with a Twist: November 18th-24th

Hey everyone, your favorite lush is back again with your weekly installment of the Geekly.  Unfortunately the weather is starting to turn cold and it’s bound to be a very busy week.  In spite of that, I’m working away to bring you your Geekly at your expected time!  That being said, I hope you all are staying warm and enjoy the turkey!  Onward with the history!

November 18th, 2001: Nintendo releases the GameCube in North America.

November 19th, 1969: For the second time, man lands on the moon.  The men are Charles Conrad and Alan Bean, astronauts on the Apollo 12 mission.

November 20th, 1889: Astronomer and genius Edwin Hubble is born in Marshfield, Missouri.  He would later be the man who proved that the universe went beyond just our galaxy and that there were, in fact, other galaxies.

November 22nd, 2005: Microsoft releases the XBOX 360 for sale in the U.S. and Canada.

November 24th, 1859: “On the Origin of Species,” Charles Darwin’s paper in which he explained the theory of evolution and natural selection, is published and rocks the scientific world.

November 24th, 1998: AOL announces a deal for the purchase of Netscape.  The weirdest part?  Remembering having to use Netscape as a browser at school.  The weirdest part of that?  This particular deal was thirteen years ago.

Okay, now that I’ve gone on a trip of feeling old, how about something to make you feel young again?  Also, as I’m sure most of you have been seriously enjoying Skyrim over the past week I figured I’d feature a shot I first found over at The Drunken Moogle for your Twist: The Poison Arrow.

  •  1 part lime cordial
  • 1 dash grenadine
  • 1 part Irish cream liqueur

Fill a shot glass with the lime cordial and add the grenadine.  Now, very slowly pour in the Irish cream into the center of the shot glass until it hits the bottom of the shot.  Take a straw and slowly twirl it around so the liqueur twists around the tube and retract.  Enjoy!

Lastly, in order to keep up with your Geeky holiday shopping, this week’s Garnish features Drinking with Friends Glassware.

The Pokeball seriously won me over.

Featuring glasses etched with multiple geeky logos, the stock fluctuates throughout the year but, at the time of writing this, he’s got a Pokeball, the Dark Mark, Nyan cat, and more.  Seriously, I’m loving the Dark Mark and Pokeball glasses, especially, and I have a thing for glasses (as you’ll probably notice over the rest of the “holiday” season).  These are all reasonably priced for etched glassware and they look awesome…you can even do a special order!  Head on over to the Etsy shop and enjoy!

Until next week, enjoy the turkey and geek on!
