The Geekly with a Twist: November 16th-22nd

Hey all, quick intro, brain is mush…blame NaNoWriMo…onward with the history! November 16th, 1952: Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of such successful video game franchises as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and the Wii series, is born in Sonoby in Kyoto, Japan. November 17th, 1983: Chirstopher Paolini, the author behind the Inheritance Cycle books (Eragon and its sequels) is born in Los Angeles, California.

November 18th, 1923: The only of the Mercury Seven to walk on the moon, Alan B. Shepard, Jr. is born in Derry, New Hampshire. November 18th, 1953: The man who CREATES the Watchmen (well, created), Alan Moore is born in Northampton in England. November 19th, 1976: Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter, is born in St. Louis, MO. #FamousMissouriansFTW November 20th, 1985: Microsoft releases Windows 1.0. Surprisingly enough, Microsoft only ended support for the operating system on December 31st, 2001 (that’s 16 years later, for those counting). November 21st, 1924: Christopher Tolkien, the youngest of J.R.R. Tolkien’s sons and the man who drew the original maps for The Lord of the Rings (as well as the man who has helped publish his father’s works posthumously), is born in Leeds (in England, of course). November 22nd, 1940: Hall of Fame Comic Book writer and editor, Roy Thomas is born in Missouri (yeah, I couldn’t figure out which city/town…bummer). November 22nd, 1967: Mark Ruffalo, the man lately known as Dr. Bruce Banner, is born in Kenosha, Wisconsin. November 22nd, 1984: Yet another recent Avenger, the woman behind Natasha Romanoff, Scarlett Johansson is born in New York City. For more awesome geeky history, check out:

And, we’ve got to Twist it so, in honor of the birthdays of TWO of the actors in The Avengers, how about a Black Widow?

  • 1 part coffee flavored liqueur
  • 1 part vodka
  • 2 shots of espresso

Mix all ingredients in a glass coffee mug. Drink it straight or girly it up a bit with some whipped cream (and be judged, of course). Quick Garnish! (I know most of you have probably seen this already, but it’s too awesome to not rewatch…and I’m a few weeks behind, give me a break.)

And, if that’s not enough, you need to check out this interesting article featuring none other than Princess Leia (okay, Carrie Fisher, same diff).

Back to NaNo!

And, until next week, geek on!
