The Geekly with a Twist: March 30th-April 5th
Hey all…it’s the best time of the week again! Yup, Geekly time! Woohoo! Okay, so, I’m being goofy as per usual so let’s just get on with it…onward with the history!
March 30th, 1964: “Jeopardy” debuts on NBC-TV.
March 31st, 1943: Actor and meme icon, Christopher Walken is born in Queens (New York City, of course).
March 31st, 1966: Luna 10, the first artificial satellite and the first ship in lunar orbit, is launched.
March 31st, 1971: Talented actor and Star Wars alum, Ewan McGregor, is born in Perth, Scotland.
March 31st, 1993: On the set of The Crow, Brandon Lee (son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee) is accidentally shot and killed.
April 1st, 1926: Science Fiction giant Anne McCaffrey is born in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
April 1st, 1976: Apple is established in Cupertino, California.
April 1st, 1982: An actor lately known as a werewolf (in Being Human, U.S.), Sam Huntington is born in New Hampshire. (Ready to have your mind blown? He also played the son, Mimi-Siku, in Jungle 2 Jungle.)
April 1st, 2004: In something originally believe to be an April Fool’s joke, Google announced its free email service known as Gmail. The main reason for belief that it was a joke? Users were given 1 GB of storage, a record-breaker for free email service. On many anniversaries since then, Google has taken the time to celebrate with various Gmail-themed April Fool’s jokes.
April 2nd, 1914: A man known by the geek world for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi (but who shunned the fame afforded to him by Star Wars, as he was a brilliant actor beyond the franchise), Sir Alex Guinness is born in London.
April 3rd, 2010: Apple releases the iPad.
April 4th, 1965: An actor that’s been acting since he was five years old but has recently experienced a revival as Ironman, Robert Downey, Jr. is born in New York City.
April 4th, 1979: An actor known largely for his last complete role as The Joker, Heath Ledger is born in Perth, Australia.
So, in honor of so many historical moments for Apple, let’s Twist this week with a pretty fantastically easy drink: Chocolate Covered Apple.
- 1 part chocolate vodka (I recommend 360 Double Chocolate)
- 2 parts butterscotch schnapps
- 2 parts sour apple schnapps
Shake with ice for a cocktail or serve cold for a shot. Finish with a slice of green apple and a chocolate truffle.
So, of course, though there’s no better way to garnish a drink than with chocolate, let’s Garnish this article off with a friendly reminder…
