The Geekly with a Twist: April 13th-19th

Congratulations! You’ve made it through another week! For your reward…a dose of the Geekly! It’s just what the doctor ordered considering the approach of April 17th (this year’s tax deadline for the unpanicked). So, without the stalling I’ve accomplished on my taxes…onward with the history!

April 13th, 1926: The orignal Maxwell Smart, Don Adams, is born in New York City.

April 13th, 1950: A character actor more recently known for his role bringing Hellboy to life, Ron Perlman is born in New York City.

April 14th, 1629: The original theoretical physicist, Christiaan Huygens is born in The Hague.

April 14th, 1977: Buffy Summers herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar (who actually took her husband’s name and is now, legally, Sarah Michelle Prinze) is born in New York City (I’m sensing a trend here…).

April 15th, 1452:  The Renaissance man himself, Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (that is, Leonardo da Vinci) is born in (where else?) Vinci, Italy.

April 15th, 1959: The hilarious and talented actress behind Professor Trelawney, Emma Thompson is born in London.

April 15th, 1990: Yet another Harry Potter alum, Emma Watson is born in Paris, France.

April 15th, 1997: Christopher Reeve receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

April 17th, 1958: The man behind both Boromir and Eddard Stark (as well as a handful of delightfully devious villains and countless other credits), Sean Bean is born in Handsworth, England. (Odd factoid, his birth name is actually Shaun Bean.)

April 18th, 1954: Retired comedic talent Rick Moranis is born in Toronto, Canada.

April 18th, 1955: Albert Einstein dies in Princeton, New Jersey at age 76.

April 18th, 1956: The only American actor to have played a Master on Doctor Who, Eric Roberts is born in Biloxi, Mississippi.

April 18th, 1963: Late night phenom Conan O’Brien is born in Brookline, Massachusetts.

April 19th, 1946: Rocky Horror icon and the original King Arthur in Monty Python’s Spamalot, Tim Curry is born in Grappenhall, England.

April 19th, 1971: The Soviet Union launches Salyut I.

April 19th, 1978: Actor James Franco is born in Palo Alto, California.

April 19th, 1981: The young Anakin Skywalker, Hayden Christensen is born in Vancouver, Canada.

Last week, I brought you the delicious sounding Willow Rose so, in honor of the actress that plays the Slayer herself, how about a Buffy Summers to Twist your week?

  • 2 oz Tequila (reposado is nicest in my opinion for a drink of this caliber)
  • Tonic
  • Lime Juice

Fill a rocks glass with ice. Add the tequila, fill with tonic, and top with a splash of lime juice. Serve with a staked lime wedge.

And, of course, we’ve got to Garnish the week with a bit of fun!

As Con season gets in full swing, there are a few tips and tricks to help both veterans and rookies alike. My favorite read for slow days (and in preparation for some upcoming Con travel) is the Convention Survival Guide. There’s also good ones over at Anime Detour, Cosplay FTW, and fellow WordPresser Roles, Dice and Fun (based off of one from Sly Flourish).

Part of me is wondering if we need to start on one of our own…hmmmm… time to call Mr. Editor!

Until next time, geek on!
