STAR TREK 13 Helmed by Justin Lin
Star Trek 13 now has a new director: Justin Lin (Fast & Furious), who came available after a delay in his next entry into the Bourne franchise.
Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions, along with Bad Robot, selected Lin from among a handful of candidates that included Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), Daniel Espinosa (Safe House), and Duncan Jones (Source Code). According to Deadline, Lin was the only candidate to get an offer.
Lin has also been tapped to direct Universal’s reboot of The Wolf Man, and was set to begin work with Jeremy Renner on The Bourne Betrayal, but that project was pushed back to make room for a new installment from Bourne star Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass. No word on how the Star Trek deal will affect rumored plans for Lin to also direct a multi-part finale to the Fast & Furious franchise.
The project was thrown off-track a bit after the exit by Roberto Orci, who was set to direct until it seems (according to rumor) that he had a disagreement with Paramount over the nature of the story. Orci remains attached to the project as a producer, but it’s still not clear if his departure from the center seat was his idea or the studio’s.
