A spinoff to the hilarious New Zealand mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows has been confirmed by local agency New Zealand on Air, stating their funding for Paranormal Event Response Unit has been approved. The show has been budgeted for $1 million for a six-episode season.

The show would revolve around the two officers from the film, O’Leary and Minogue, as they investigate paranormal disturbances in the New Zealand capital, Wellington, attempting to monitor and control the supernatural creatures, keeping the residents safe.

The spinoff comes off the Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) co-created and directed What We do in the Shadows, a “documentary” on four vampire roommates in Wellington. The film received good reviews from critics and earned $6.9 million worldwide. Currently there is discussion of a sequel to the film following the werewolf pack, depicting the power struggle between Rhys Darby and Stu Rutherford for the alpha male of the gang.

There is no discussion of it being released in the US, however given the fan success of the film, it can be expected to show up state side.
