Samuel L. Jackson Joining Cast of INVERSION

It appears Samuel L. Jackson will be joining Travis Fimmel and Liu Yifei in Peter Segal’s sci-fi epic Inversion. He’s reported to be in final negotiations to star in the Facing East’s $130 million movie announced at the American Film Market (AFM).

Fimmel, who has been attached since May, will portray a street-wise American con man who teams with a Chinese physicist (Yifei) in a race against the clock to save Earth from a loss of gravity. Jackson will play a senior Homeland Security investigator who believes the pair are the cause of the inversions of gravity, chasing them to try to stop further destruction.

The project, introduced at Cannes in 2014, is the first feature from the new Hong Kong/Beijing-based production company, Facing East, launched by producers Markus Barmettler and Philip Lee. It is co-financed by Pegasus Motion Pictures and Sun Entertainment, also based out of Hong Kong. Huaxia Film Distribution will co-produce and distribute in mainland China while Foresight Unlimited is handling internationals sales at AFM.

Paul Haggis (Casino Royale, Crash), David Arata (Children of Men, Spy Game), and Bragi Schut (Season of the Witch) co-wrote the screenplay.

Jackson’s upcoming films include xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Kong: Skull Island, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, and Unicorn Store. He is also featured in the voice cast of Blazing Samurai and again portray Nick Fury in Avengers: Infinity War.

Yifei is known for her roles in The Assassins, The Four, and The Forbidden Kingdom. Her newest projects include this years The Chinese Widow and Once Upon a Time, which will be released in 2017.

Fimmel previously starred in the History Channel’s historical drama Vikings and this year’s Warcraft: The Beginning.

Filming is set to begin February 2017 in Berlin and continue in Shanghai and Chicago.
