Recap: THE LAST SHIP – Lazaretto

 

 

Episode 408: “Lazaretto”

Vellek (Peter Weller) has the seeds, he’s created the new crop, and he’s prepared to stop anyone who stands in his way.

Vellek has cured the red rust on the crops. He has the Greek commander and the Greek fleet under his control. He tries to convince his youngest son Kristos (Drew Roy), who is obviously his pride and joy, to join him. Kristos is also a scientist who doesn’t want to work with his father. Now, this doesn’t seen like it’s in real time. It feels like something that happened in the past. I notice that Giorgio (Jackson Rathbone) doesn’t have his scars.

Fletcher (Jonathan Howard) suspects that there are things amiss. Admiral Demetrius (Costas Mandylor) is acting strange and Fletcher is onto it. Giorgio lets it slip that Vellek has mind control drugs. Fletcher pays Demetrius a visit and learns everything he needs to know from Demetrius behavior and what he tells him. Fletcher then kills him.

Vulture team heads to the house on Kleos where they believe Vellek has an off ship base. At the house, they find soldiers training. Vuture team pretends they are soldiers and sneak inside…well, the men of Vulture team. The women stay out. The men find out they aren’t soldiers, but more like prisoners. The soldiers have been given the drug. Vulture team realizes they really need to blend in. It’s hard for tough guys like Vulture team to pass as passive men. Oh, boy! Burk (Jocko Sims) and Jeter (Charles Parnell) get to the control center and need about 20 minutes to get all the intel they need. That means the rest of Vulture team who are acting like prisoners have to hold out and keep the peace. It seems like it’s going to be okay until one of the guards decides to pick on Wolf (Bren Foster). What a bad idea!

Lucia (Sibylla Deen) continues to warn her father that the Americans are coming, but Vellek doesn’t seem to care at all. He’s too busy being full of himself. Fletcher reaches out to Giorgio, knowing he’s the weak link of the family. Giorgio doesn’t give him the time of day. He knows his father will get his way and it’s better to be on his father’s side. Fletcher is hard to read. Is he pursuing this because he knows this is morally wrong? Or is he worried his country is not going to get fed? Fletcher doesn’t give up on Giorgio. He meets with him again and Giorgio explains that the drugs aren’t mind control, but behavior control. Fletcher tells Giorgio that he needs to protect his father’s legacy and you get to thinking Fletcher might be getting through to him. Nope, Giorgio dismisses him. Giorgio decides to go try and convince his father to be done with his plan and to go home. It doesn’t work.

Vulture team finds out that the food is the drug. The soldiers eat like there is no tomorrow. They continue to try and find out more information as Jeter and Burk are about done getting intel. Vulture team is not eating lunch. The guard notices and starts to pick on Wolf again. Wolf starts kicking ass along with the rest of Vulture team. They make their way out of the house with the guards in hot pursuit and just as they exit, Sasha (Bridget Regan) and Azima (Jodie Turner-Smith) open fire on the guards, and the boys are in the clear.

Fletcher gets to the control room and contacts the Nathan James. Fletcher tells all he knows and apologizes to Sasha. He says the Greek warship is going to Malta. Giorgio catches him and behind the door is his father. They exchange words and then Giorgio shoots Fletcher right between the eyes. The scene where Giorgio throws Fletcher’s body overboard was brutal. Giorgio has always seemed like almost a cartoon character, but that kill shot woke me up.

Giorgio goes to the lab to see his dad. His dad is having a moment with his son Kristos. In flashback scenes, it shows that Kristos was killed a long time ago…Vellek is talking to no one. Kristos is not there. Giorgio watches his father interact with his brother who isn’t there and slowly closes the lab door.

Next week, they will wrap this season up with a two episode season finale. The scenes for next week look great and I can’t wait to see how they bring this all to a close.

The Last Ship concludes season 4 this Sunday at 9/8c on TNT.
