PREACHER Finds Its Vampire
AMC’s adaptation of Preacher has cast British actor Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy the Irish vampire.
Gilgun, whose work has been limited mostly to film and television in England, will join Ruth Negga and Ian Colletti in the series, which is based on the comic book by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are spearheading the project, produced by Sony TV and AMC Studios. The story follows Jesse Custer, a small-town Texas preacher who merges with a creature who’s escaped from heaven, giving him the ability to make anyone do as he says. When God literally goes “missing”, Custer goes on a search with his ex-girlfriend Tulip and vampire Cassidy in tow.
Cassidy is described as “an incorrigible mischief-maker” who’s “up for anything — joyriding, bungee-jumping, bank robbing, peyote dropping. He’s also a relentless conversationalist with opinions on everything from religion to politics to pop culture to theories on why people are better able to tolerate the odor of their own flatulence.”
Gilgun is an alumnus of the British sci-fi series Misfits, as is his co-star Negga. Perhaps Rogen is a fan?
