Today, Atlus released news that Persona®2: Eternal Punishment is now available for download on the PlayStation®Network for PlayStation®3, PlayStation®Vita, and PlayStation®Portable.

p2_ep_boxPriced at $9.99, Eternal Punishment presents a story that takes place after the events unfolding in Persona®2: Innocent Sin.Actually, according to Atlus editor Nich Maragos, the game was originally both parts together, but for various reasons the Eternal Punishment segment never got an American release before.

That piece was localized in 2000, and that’s the version that’s available on PSN as a PSOne classic game.

Players control a group of characters brought together in Sumaru City as they investigate a serial killer known as the Joker, along with delving into the mystery of the “Joker Curse”. The mismatched characters are magazine reporter Maya Amano, her unlucky-in-love boxer friend Ulala Serizawa, police detective Katsuya Suou, and a shady Taiwanese fixer known as “Baofu.”

Like in the other games, players can either fight demons or negotiate with them for assistance, or to earn items such as Arcana cards in order to fuse characters for more powerful attacks. There’s also a rumor system throughout the game, where players can collect and exchange information — sometimes for a fee.

The graphics and game play are similar to the original 2000 version, being a port of the original game, and some character names are a little different from their identities in the other Persona games. Maragos has provided a list of the differences in his PSN blog entry, linked above.

Persona®2: Eternal Punishment is rated T.
