Nominees for the Saturn Awards Announced

On Friday, July 13th, nominees were announced for the 2019 Saturn Awards, which recognize excellence in film and television across the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres.

Founded in 1972, the Saturns are selected by a vote of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films. Originally chartered to honor films, its reach soon expanded to include television and home entertainment, and now online and the occasional live stage production.

Earlier this week, Deadline reported that the Saturn Awards will be broadcast for the first time since 1978 as part of a new multi-year partnership with TV producer Justin W. Hochberg (Pros vs. Joes, The Great Escape). The deal will have the 2019 Saturns presented via livestream, although no streaming partner has been announced.

During the 1978 broadcast, William Shatner performed his now-infamous rendition of “Rocket Man”.
