Marvel Casting News: Zemo & Killgrave Coming to MCU
_______________
A couple of bits of casting news on the Marvel front:
1. David Tennant has joined the cast of AKA Jessica Jones and will play Zebediah Kilgrave.
According to the Marvel announcement, “An enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world.”
Kilgrave, also known as “The Purple Man”, made his debut (as Killgrave) in the pages of Daredevil #4 (1964), and was set up as Jones’ main antagonist with Brian Michael Bendis’ run on Alias starting in 2001.
“Anyone familiar with David’s work knows he brings an incredible level of dedication to any role he inhabits, a level we knew we would need from the man playing Kilgrave,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “While most know him for his roles as a hero, we can’t wait to unleash a whole new side of this talented actor.”
The announcement also says that AKA Jessica Jones will air on Netflix in 2015, which counters the earlier rumor that Netflix would roll out the Marvel shows one-per-year. Jones will have a 13-episode run following the 13-ep Daredevil, which hits Netflix April 10th.
2. Baron Zemo is in Captain America: Civil War
According to a casting call for Captain America: Civil War, Daniel Brühl (Inglorious Basterds, Rush) is set to play Baron Zemo.
Which could be either the original Baron Zemo, who fought Captain America when the hero was revived in the 1960s, or it could be Baron Zemo II, the son of the original villain. The former was a follower of the Red Skull, so he could show up in the flashback sequences (as well as appearances on Agent Carter). If it’s the son, then he’d likely be working with Baron Von Strucker on the “Miracles” experiments.
The announcement also confirms the appearance of Frank Grillo as Crossbones.
Some have speculated that this might hint at a future appearance by the Thunderbolts. What do you think? Are you ready for Avengers vs. Thunderbolts in the theaters?
