LOST IN SPACE Adds Parker Posey as Dr. Smith
The Netflix reboot of Lost In Space has found its Dr. Smith: Parker Posey will take on the role originally played by Jonathan Harris.
It’s yet another example of the changes being made to the cast of the show, which will feature a multi-ethnic Robinson family. Now the question is whether Posey’s Dr. Smith will be like the original saboteur who put the Jupiter 2 off course, or will she be the bumbling buffoon comic relief Smith of later episodes?
“The pain…”
Posey played Kitty Kowalski opposite Kevin Spacey’s Lex Luthor in Superman Returns, and has been in other genre projects such as Blade: Trinity, Frankenstein, and Futurama. She was also in Josie and the Pussycats. She joins Toby Stephens and Molly Parker, who play the Robinsons, along with Maxwell Jenkins as Will and Taylor Russell as Judy.
The project is being shepherded by screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold), who will executive produce with showrunner Zack Estrin. Also on board as top-level producers are Kevin Burns and Jon Jashni of Synthesis Entertainment, Neil Marshall and Marc Helwig of Applebox, a division of Legendary TV. Marshall will also direct several episodes.
The new Lost In Space is set to debut on Netflix sometime in 2018.
