Laura Vandervoort & Jeff Branson Join SUPERGIRL Cast
The DC Comics filmed projects — both movies and TV, but TV series especially — have a long tradition of casting alumni from previous productions. Superman had Noel Neill and Kirk Alyn, the original Lois Lane and Superman, as Lois Lane’s parents. That Lois, Margot Kidder, joined her co-star Christopher Reeve on Smallville, along with Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher, who also played Clark and Lois, to pass the baton to Tom Welling and Erica Durance.
Team Berlanti has followed that tradition, casting previous Flash John Wesley Shipp as the father of the current Barry Allen and bringing back Amanda Pays and Mark Hamill in their roles from the 1991 version of The Flash. On the current version of Supergirl, they brought back Dean Cain and Helen Slater (Superman and Supergirl) to play Kara’s adopted parents. Slater also played Kal-El’s mother Lara on Smallville.

Now, they’re doing it again, casting Smallville‘s Supergirl, Laura Vandervoort, in a recurring role as Indigo, described by producers as a strong-willed living supercomputer sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton.
