JESSICA JONES May Have a Lead

BANNER_News2013

Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva is reporting (and Marvel is not confirming yet) that Krysten Ritter has been selected to play Jessica Jones in the new series Marvel Studios will be placing on Netflix.

Andreeva says the choice was narrowed down to Ritter and Teresa Palmer, and that both had been doing reads with Mike Colter from The Following, leading Andreeva to speculate that Marvel may also have found their Luke Cage as well.

Ritter was among five actresses testing for the lead, and that included Palmer, Alexandra Daddario, Marin Ireland, and Jessica De Gouw.

When the series was set to air on ABC three years ago, Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg was set as the showrunner, and Deadline speculates she’s still attached to the show, which will focus on Jessica Jones after her mental breakdown from being a superhero. Jones hangs up her hero identity in favor of starting a private detective agency. The IMDb listing also notes that Carol Danvers will appear on the show, but that information doesn’t appear to be available anywhere else, so take it with a healthy dose of salt.

Although with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. laying the groundwork for Inhumans, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Jessica Jones could introduce Carol Danvers in her pre-Captain Marvel days.
