J.K. Rowling Teases Fans With More Beasts

After a five-year absence of the wonderful wizarding world of Harry Potter, last year audiences were dazzled by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based on a supplemental book by J.K. Rowling. Luckily, muggles will not have to wait as long this time around to return with the sequel’s release next year. And, to feed the fans frenzy, Ms. Rowling has served a teaser through a cryptic tweet.

Simply captioned, “Having a beastly day…” the photo shows the front page of a script. Simply listed with her name, part of a confidentiality statement, and a watermark, this visual is a good clue that not only the script has been submitted to the Warner Bros. brass, but most likely also distributed to the production crew. This is not too much of a stretch, due to the time frame for the release and director David Yates comment last summer that Rowling had already written the script.

Little is known about the sequel, currently named Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2. It is thought that Johnny Depp will have a bigger role as Gellert Grindelwald after his cameo in the first film. What is known is that Yates is returning as director and Eddie Redmayne will be reprising his role as Magizoologist New Scamander. Zoe Kravitz and Ezra Miller will be joining.

Fantastic Beasts was critically received, even being the first Wizarding World film to win an Oscar, for Best Costume Design. However, there was a feeling that some of the fans were less thrilled with it compared to the original eight films. While the movie is about wizards and magic, the feel is much different. Lack of the school? More emphasis on plot? New wizard culture in America? Possibly, with the next film, Beast doubters will feel more comfortable with the confirmed bigger roles for Grindelwald and Dumbledore. As the series continues through the now stated five films, moving closer to the timeframe of the original franchise, perhaps those die-hard muggles will be satisfied, seeing more characters they have known and love.

Filming is expected to begin in the United Kingdom and Paris in August. But until then, muggles can look forward the Digital, DVD, and Blu-Ray release on March 28, 2017.

Fantastic Beasts 2 will hit theaters on November 16, 2018.
