DR. STRANGE Has a Front Runner for the Director's Chair
Variety magazine is reporting that Sinister director Scott Derrickson is in talks to helm the upcoming Phase III Marvel Studios film Dr. Strange.
The film is one of producer Kevin Feige’s pet projects, and Derrickson brings his time directing horror and suspense pictures, which will certainly fit the tone of Marvel’s first sorcery film. Sources say a deal should be in place soon, but talks are still early in their development. Given the challenge of finding a director for Ant Man, it’s best to proceed with caution and note that this is not a done deal yet.
Derrickson’s next movie, Deliver Us From Evil, stars genre alumni Eric Bana and Olivia Munn in a story about a police officer experiencing supernatural events.
Dr. Strange centers on Dr. Steven Strange, a brilliant neurosurgeon who loses the use of his hands in a drunk driving accident and goes on to become the “Sorcerer Supreme” in an effort to rekindle his surgical skills using any means necessary. The character has already been name-checked in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most notably in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
