DEADPOOL Will Be Your Valentine in 2016
The Merc with the Mouth is finally getting his date.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, February 12, 2016 is the day Wade Wilson will hit theater screens in the long-awaited Deadpool.
The project has long been gestating at Fox, dating back to Wade’s first appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which many fans (and now, it appears, the franchise itself) choose to ignore. With events in X-Men: Days of Future Past seeming to wipe the slate clean, it seems Deadpool now has a better shot at finally seeing the light of day. Given the amount of press the character has been getting at Marvel — including a wedding and a complete set of variant covers — plus such positive reaction to the leaked test footage, it was only a matter of time before something official developed.
Tim Miller is still set to direct, with Ryan Reynolds likely to star, although no official deals have been announced yet. Some sources have Lauren Shuler Donner in the producer’s seat, and one description, citing a source “close to Fox,” says the movie will be “a complete exploration of this unique character — his origins, his emergence as the Merc with the Mouth.”
Reynolds told IGN, “The script, I think, is fantastic. It has been developed even further in the last three months or so. The film has to be rated R, and it has to be done a certain way, it has to do all these things that I am sure can worrisome for the guys cutting the checks for it. So if it’s going to be done, it needs to be done right.” Some information about the project conflicts, with some reports having the production going off the script by Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, while others say the project is currently looking for writers. This could mean either a completely new story, or possibly a polish of the existing script.
Reese, the writer and producer originally attached to the project, took to Twitter with his own confirmation of the news:

In an interview with the Niagra Falls Review, Reynolds spoke about reaction to the leaked test footage: “There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage; you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, so we weren’t crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.’ It’s interesting to see the power of the Internet. It’s awe-inspiring, actually. And it’s neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used the right way.”
Along with the announcement of Deadpool moving forward, Fox also announced changes in dates for other projects. Assassin’s Creed has been moved from its August 7, 2015 date and has yet to be placed anywhere else on the calendar, while The Fantastic Four reboot takes that slot, moving back from its June 19 date.
