CW Announces New and Returning Shows

The CW announced early renewals for the 2020-2021 season, picking up all of the shows that won’t be coming to an end this year.

That includes several of its comic-based television shows will be renewed for further seasons. Following the critically acclaimed “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event, CW announced a second season for Batwoman, as well as a sixth season of DC Legends of Tomorrow, a sixth season of Supergirl, a fourth season of Black Lightning, and a seventh season of The Flash.

While the Crisis event has not ended, this does seem to confirm that Batwoman, the Flash, and Supergirl will all come out of the event alive. With the end of Arrow, fans speculate that the network will treat The Flash as its new flagship series. There is currently no word as to what the next story arc the shared universe will go through next.

On the day of Arrow‘s final season premiere, executive producer Marc Guggenheim posted the announcement of the spinoff, Green Arrow and the Canaries, which will follow Mia Smoak (Katherine MacNamara), Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy), and Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy Rodgers) in new adventures.

“These early orders for next season give our production teams a head start in plotting out story arcs and a jump on hiring staff, and this also provides us with a strong foundation of established, fan-favorite CW shows to build on for next season,” said Mark Pedowitz, president of the CW. “We’ve been thrilled with the creative direction of all three new series, and even though we are in the very early stages of our new full stack streaming strategy, which allows viewers to catch up on our new shows from the beginning, we’re already seeing incredibly positive results from our multiplatform viewership for Nancy Drew and Batwoman.”

The network pickups also include a third season each for the Charmed reboot, Legacies, and Roswell, New Mexico.

The Crisis finale will air on January 14th.
