The very moment Matt Groening announced it was online at the App Store, I was one of the fans sitting in the panel at San Diego Comic-Con downloading Comedy Central’s brand new FREE FUTURAMA Head-in-a-Jar iPhone App – Cool-o-rama!! 😀

Absolutely loved finally getting to see the fabulous voice cast in person: Jon Di Maggio (Bender), Billy West (Philip J. Fry/Dr. Zoidberg/Prof. Hubert J. Farnsworth/Zapp Brannigan, etc., ad infinitum!), Maurice LaMarche (Kif), Katey Sagal (Leela), Phil Lamarr (Hermes), plus director Peter Avanzino and executive producers David X Cohen and Matt Groening.

The audience was treated to clips of the Season 6 finale episode, which is completely reanimated in three very different styles, a Japanese Anime tribute sequence (complete with large, dewy-eyed and big-haired versions of all of the characters and a hilariously mis-matched “dubbed” voicetrack!), a black-and-white 1920s “Betty Boop”-styled sequence, and an 1980s low-res video game sequence, plus the exciting news that Futurama has been renewed for two more seasons on Comedy Central!

A Bender-drawing competition between between Matt Groening and Peter Avanzino resulted in a hilarious dozen or so quick sketches by Groening while Avanzino slaved over his one more complex masterpiece. Groening delighted the crowd by rapidly making sketch after sketch, autographing every one of his “artworks” and even adding “prices” to them. When Avanzino finally finished his drawing, Groening added his own signature to that as well, and select, delighted Futurama-costumed fans were awarded the results of their combined efforts.

And the answer as to why show seems to hate Richard Nixon so much? Billy West (who due to his role on Futurama has voiced President Richard Nixon — or at least his head — more than any other actor in history) quipped, “Because he drafted me in 1970!”
